The Odd Couple (1968 Gene Saks)

What is a triple play? It's when three members of the batting team are caught out in a single play. So it's quite rare.

"Not in other words. Those are the exact words."

Probably my favourite moment is Matthau breaking down when he tells Lemmon he can't live with him any more. For Matthau, well rehearsed after a Broadway run, this performance should have all been easy; it was Lemmon who had the harder task of stepping into Art Carney's shoes. (In the original Broadway production in 1965, John Feidler, Carole Evans and Monica Shelley also appeared.) After Wilder cast him in The Fortune Cookie Matthau never went back on to the stage again.
