Wondrous Oblivion (2003 Paul Morrison & scr)

1950s. Jamaican neighbours move in to suburbia and the father teaches the Jewish boy to play cricket (and has time to flirt with his mother).

Sam Smith (the 1999 Oliver Twist, who seems to have retired) is fine, so is Delroy Lindo as the neighbour (good accent). With Emily Woof, Stanley Meadows, Leonie Elliott (as the little girl, now in Call the Midwife), Yasmin Paige.

We liked the animated Players football cards. It's a simple story, simply told, charming and not mushy. Filmed in St Albans. Production design by Eve Stewart.

But 'A film by...'? No.
