From the memoir by M.E. Clifton Jones, and also starring he as himself. John Mills and Cecil Parker (and the indispensable Barbara Hicks) lick 'Monty' into shape to fool Germans in build-up to D-Day. Unremarkable until last half hour when he's captured by Germans in North Africa and Johnny and passing-by officer Bryan Forbes must spring to the rescue.
With a deluge of familiar types including Michael Hordern, Leslie Phillips, Marius Goring, James Hayter, Sid James, Alfie Bass, John LeMesurier, David Lodge, Marne Maitland (Arab), Allan Cuthbertson and Harry Fowler.
Assembly edit John Jympson, editor Max Benedict, camera Basil Emmott; John Addison's score isn't great.
Johnny looks like he's just come back from holiday, typically of his films from this era.
