Nothing Sacred (1937 William Wellman)

Delightfully cynical film about the press, written by former journalist Ben Hecht, emanating from a short Cosmopolitan story ‘Letter to the Editor’ by James H Street. Scenes with deadpan Fredric March encountering hostile citizens of Warsaw, Vermont are hilarious. Film is a beautiful old jewel (W. Howard Greene), the only Carole Lombard film in colour, I think. Lovely colour aerial shots of Manhattan too.

Rest of cast great: Walter Connolly, Charles Winninger, Sig Ruman, Troy Brown, John Qualen, Margaret Hamilton.
