Good, enjoyable variation of the film, based on Elmore Leonard. "No one cares who the writer is." (It's written by Davey Holmes and others.) And Bridgers' line: "I haven't even read it... and I wrote it."
Chris O'Dowd, Ray Romano, Lidia Porto, Sean Bridgers (good; Room, Dark Places), Goya Robles (crime son), Megan Stevenson (producer), Lucy Walters (ex wife), Sarah Stiles (the PA), Isaac Keys (enforcer), Ruth Kearney (annoying New Zealand actress).
Its distinctive style is represented (initially, at any rate) by long tracking shots, particularly following a character in front; and an almost exclusively drum driven soundtrack.
Gang strongarm O'Dowd starts to enjoy the business of making movies, particularly as it's impressing his ex and daughter 'Shorty' (Carolyn Dodd) but unfortunately his boss does also. Process of getting film made with criminal 'muscle' is funny, as is view of Hollywood; much to enjoy e.g. gofer who becomes unexpectedly good actor (Billy Magnussen).
An MGM Production, 10 x 60m. Actually filmed in New Mexico. Loved it and looking forward to the next two series.
