A charismatic young sex worker befriends a man with a grim past as a child soldier in Africa, and induces him into murder; on their trail are cheerful new detective and his gruff, drug-addicted sidekick. These four are well played respectively by Dipo Ola (Landscapers), Hermione Corfield (Slaughterhouse Rulez, Mr Holmes, Endeavour film Prey), Babou Ceesay and Eve Myles.
There's a touch of black humour to the proceedings, e.g. people Ola kills keep coming back to life.
Scene where Myles confesses her addiction is fabulous, played just right - a difficult scene that would defeat lesser actors. I've come to the conclusion that the script and the actors are the essentials in anything. Both need to be believable. Often when the acting's bad, it's partly the fault of the screenplay.
DP Michael Wood (episodes 4 - 6) is using some very interesting lenses.
I didn't realise - this is the 2020 Series One repeat. Will they get her in season 2? BBC 6 x 45.
