Infamous (2006 Doug McGrath & scr)

Toby Jones is fantastic as Truman Capote and the film runs deeper then we remembered - he seems to lose his heart to convicted murderer Daniel Craig, and then atrophies creatively. I don't know or care if that's true but is gives the film more oomph. Capote's circle of 'friends' comprises Sandra Bullock, Peter Bogdanovich, Juliet Stevenson (good), Sigourney Weaver, Hope Davies, Isabella Rossellini and John Benjamin Hickey (The Good Fight, Flags of Our Fathers). Jeff Daniels is on good form as ever as the cop involved.

We were puzzled in the opening scene where singer Gwyneth Paltrow dries up in mid song.

Funny scene in which Capote goes to supermarket in search of cheeses.

Production design: Judy Becker. Camera: Bruno Delbonnel. Music: Rachel Portman. Editing: Camilla Toniolo, who had cut McGrath's 2016 documentary Becoming Mike Nichols.

Doug is Woody's friend who wrote Bullets Over Broadway with him. Also Gwyneth's Emma and a 2002 Nicholas Nickleby, which I'm surprised to find we own, but have never watched!
