Brooklyn (2015 John Crowley)

Nick Hornby ( a useful man to have around) has adapted Colm Tóibín (get your accents out) 2009 novel. I didn't notice the music at all, which is perhaps as it should be.

At one point I heard myself saying 'She's got a great Irish accent'. Yes, that would probably be down to the fact Saoirse Ronan's parents are Irish and she was brought up there. Anyway, that flummery aside, she (20 here) is absolutely fabulous. For example in this key scene (in which she really does needs a kick up the arse, and gets one), her face is so expressive - contains a mix of emotions:

Films to watch with her:

Stockholm, Pennsylvania
How I Live Now
Violet and Daisy (James Gandolfini)
The Way Back
Hanna (again)

Rest of cast good especially Julie Walters, Emory Cohen, Domhnall Gleeson, Jim Broadbent, Emily Bett Rickards, Fiona Glascott (good as her sister), Maeve McGrath, Nora-Jane Noone.

Shot by Yves Bélanger (Dallas Buyers Club, Wild) and rather well edited by Jake Roberts (Starred Up, The Riot Club).
