After the Thin Man (1936 W.S. Van Dyke)

More of the same relationship fun from Goodrich & Hackett, thus the night scrambled egg scene. Plus the first of two films in the day when a dog steals something important. But they were growing sick of the characters already and wanted to kill them - that was not an option, so they wrote that Nora becomes pregnant in the hope that would stop things moving forward...

They befriended Dashiell Hammett on the first one and remained firm friends thereafter.

Skippy is Asta. He retired in 1941 having starred in the early Thin Mans, The Awful Truth and Bringing Up Baby. In this, he's amusingly experiencing domestic troubles.

Powell is very lithe - made me wonder if he had experience as a dancer (don't think so, specifically). Didn't realise he's in The Last Command - makes me want to see that even more.

This is the one with the awful Aunt Katherine (Jessie Ralph). Plus Elissa Landi, James Stewart, Joseph Calleia, Alan Marshal. Sam Levene, William Law.

Shot by Oliver T Marsh.

Powell on Loy: "When we did a scene together, we forgot about technique, camera angles, and microphones. We weren't acting. We were just two people in perfect harmony. Many times I've played with an actress who seemed to be separated from me by a plate-glass window; there was no contact at all. But Myrna, unlike some actresses who think only of themselves, has the happy faculty of being able to listen while the other fellow says his lines. She has the give and take of acting that brings out the best."
