Unexpectedly gripping and moving tragic drama, told completely straight, set in Corsica. Good (and married) doctor Georges Marchal falls for Lucia Bose, while his friend Robert le Fort cares for his sick wife. When he's fired, and she dies, he goes after the callous businessman who's responsible, Jean-Jacques Delbo (even though it's really the fault of his henchman Pascal Mazzotti.. sort of). Police commissioner Julian Bertheau (The Phantom of Liberty, Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie) is on the case.
Love the moment he pats the dead man's head.
Good use of sound, locations.
Rare. Did get a DVD release, in Italy, where it's available for €70. My copy looks like it's from an American VHS.
Music Joseph Kosma. Photography Robert Lefebvre. From the novel by Emmanuel Robles, adapted by Bunuel and Jean Ferry, who wrote the dialogue.
