Cracker: To Say I Love You (1994 Tim Fywell)

Paul Abbott's the producer now, in advance of writing his own episodes, and later successes like Clocking Off, State of Play, Shameless and No Offence.

Jimmy McGovern's Hillsborough episode, featuring a deranged Robert Carlyle (who's a bit too good at roles like this). It's also the one where when Ecclestone's stabbed, there's a pinch of no sound just before we hear the horrible bayonet cleave into the body - an effective moment, to be sure.

Panhandle calls Fitz 'an emotional rapist'. As a character he's just too confrontational, too argumentative, too sure he's right...

Still photographed by Ivan Strasburg, this time edited by Edward Mansell.

That last bomb for the Sun journalist is I reckon Jimmy's way of saying 'fuck you' to The Sun, which published outrageous and untrue stories about the Liverpool fans after the tragedy, referred to in the narrative.
