Swiss Family Robinson (1960 Ken Annakin)

Due to a 'land corridor' I think it was called, Pacific island (actually Tobago) is populated by a tiger, lizards, giant snakes and a baby elephant (no parents). Into this strange zoo land the shipwrecked Swiss family, bringing with them a variety of other animals, including two terrific Rhodesian Ridgebacks (who steal the film).

Highlight of long film is family defending itself against invading pirates, whose number - despite the numerous traps they fall into - never seems to diminish, like some annoying computer game.

It's a lot of fun.

John Mills, Dorothy McGuire, James MacArthur, Janet Munro, Sessue Hayakawa, Tommy Kirk, Kevin Corcoran (who Q correctly identified from Pollyanna; he latterly became an assistant director on TV, notably for Murder She Wrote), Cecil Parker.

I swear those pirates are making up their lines as they go along.

Images: Harry Waxman. Music: William Alwyn. Screenplay: Lowell Hawley. For Disney.
