Scream and Scream Again (1969, rel. 1970 Gordon Hessler)

Downright weird, low budget horror film from American International, made in Britain (not one of Corman's). Basically a recycling of the Frankenstein story with rape and murder, and live amputations, plus a bizarre sub-plot in some mythical country (clearly filmed in England). You feel for the poor jogger who keeps waking up minus more appendages.

The band (is it The Amen Corner) singing 'Scream and Scream Again' is one of the lowlights.

With Vincent Price, Alfred Marks, Michael Gothard (the monster), Christopher Matthews (doctor), Judy Bloom (brave WPC), Judy Huxtable (second victim), Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing (briefly - a day's filming?), Yutte Stensgaard (too briefly), Peter Sallis, Uta Levka, Anthony Newlands, Marshall Jones.

So all the American money that had been flying in since Tom Jones was slowly going back home, and the lack of investment - and defection of many of the talented directors - meant that we started churning out rubbish Carry On type comedies, dull Horror crap and TV series spin-offs, at the end of the sixties and into the seventies.

It was photographed by John Coquillon, at least. The incidental music is terrible.
