A stupid title, really. An entirely predictable but fun movie, which rests on the charisma of its two stars, Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan, and on the athletic prowess of the latter. Handsomely shot (Dan Mindel), refreshing in its absence of CGI, with a jokey script (travellers think the Chinaman must be 'Jewish' as they've never seen one before, 'John Wayne', drunken bathtub scene).
Written, if that's the right expression, by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough. There's a sequel, should anyone care, Shanghai Knights.
With Lucy Liu, Brandon Merrill, Roger Yuan, Xander Berkeley, Jason Connery. Edited by Richard Chew (The Conversation, Goin' South, I Am Sam, Cuckoo's Nest).
