Bird made The Incredibles which also had Michael Giacchino writing the music, and this is his first live action film. It's a load of hot air, with an oddly uncharismatic Cruise in the centre, and way too long. I blame the writers Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec.
We watched it for Simon Pegg but he can't save it. With Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, Léa Seydoux.
Yes, unbelievably, that is the clearly insane Cruise dangling, climbing, running and flying 119 storeys up outside the horribly tall Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai. Just the removal of some extra safety cabling (and its reflections) was CGI. The behind-the-scenes story of this makes interesting reading.
