The Nice Guys (2016 Shane Black & co-scr)

..with Anthony Bagarozzi. We enjoyed this much more than last time. Shane's writing is great fun, frequently taking you on a left turn when you thought you were going right, with Ryan Gosling displaying hilarious comic talent. (Without this he might have ended up as a sort of Clint Eastwood impassive type.) Also has winning emotional touches (even the boy covering up Misty Mountains or whatever her name is).

With Russell Crowe and Angourie Rice are Matt Bomer, Margaret Qualley, Yaya DaCosta, Keith David, Beau Knapp (giggling psycho) and Kim Basinger.

We seem to have gone off on a strange trajectory, and don't watch old black-and-whites any more (this is shot by Philippe Rousselot in Panavision).
