Arise My Love (1940 Mitchell Leisen)

Brackett's diaries for 1940 are intelligible so I have no inside dope on this one. It was made for Arthur Hornblow at Paramount, a truly patriotic 'look what's happening in Europe - we can't turn our backs on this'. Ray Milland and Claudette Colbert, Dennis O'Keefe, Walter Abel, Dick Purcell, George Zucco.

"Imagine - a secretary taking dictation in Maxim's. You wonder what they get up to in the office!"

Music Victor Young, DP Charles Lang, editor Doane Harrison.

According to 'The Paramount Story, "a small war was waged on the set between Leisen and Wilder, who never could get on". Wilder says that Leisen didn't like a writer who would protest about the way things were done - claims he wasn't allowed on the set of this one.

We watched it in the middle of the Djokovic-Alcaraz Wimbledon Final, which was very exciting.
