José Luis López Vázquez goes back to Segovia to (re)bury his mother, meets his aunt, cousin, husband and their daughter. He flashes back to a summer in 1938 they stayed there - actually, now I come to think of it, it's more than one summer, because one's definitely 1936 and the outbreak of the Civil War. But in flashback, the boy is played by the adult actor, who's wonderful. And his cousin Angelica and her grown up daughter are both played by Lina Canalejas. So it's a quite complex story of family and relationships, but very interesting.
The fact that the elder cousin and his cousin's daughter get on so well together is a lovely facet. And it's also got some stuff about the father, who it seems is in danger from the revolutionaries - and who we see executed in a fantasy scene - but he has somehow survived.
Photographed by the great Luis Cuadrado.
