Elizabeth Olsen escapes from a cult and has trouble readjusting - we learn why eventually. Durkin and Olsen (who's great) both picked up film awards around the world. Durkin went on to Southcliffe and The Nest, with a film about wrestling, The Iron Claw, his latest in 2023.
It's a potent and most creepy film, underscored by an ominous soundtrack and sound design. Durkin has a way of slowly creeping in on scenes, and an effective cross cutting style. Even the very ending is creepy.
There's one moment when the music (which is by Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans, Ozark) is so overwhelming it's like the room is full of wasps.
With Sarah Paulson and Hugh Dancy as the couple struggling to cope with her, John Hawkes as the cult leader (True Detective, The Peanut Butter Falcon, Three Billboards, Life of Crime, Winter's Bone). And Christoper Abbott, Brady Corbet, Marla Dizzia, Julia Garner, Louisa Krause.
