The season's ending coincides with the pandemic, though they chose instead to introduce the new character, Daniel Dae Kim.
Note: Blues singer Bessie Smith was not refused entry to a whites only hospital - that was a myth perpetuated in a play by Edward Albee. However the fact that hospitals could be segregated at all is quite outrageous.
