An initially promising and quirky premise as broke mum Michelle Pfeiffer and son Lucas Hedges move to Paris, meeting fortune teller Danielle Macdonald en route. Has an early Wes Anderson feel to it, but ultimately doesn't go anywhere or coalesce into anything - a disappointment.
Pfeiffer is good in spiky performance. With Valerie Mahaffey (Seabiscuit, Sully), Susan Coyne, Imogen Poots, Isaach de Bankolé, Daniel di Tomasso.
Patrick deWitt adapted his own novel, music by Nick deWitt. Photographed by Tobias Datum, edited by Hilda Rasula.
