In the Bedroom (2001 Todd Field & co-scr)

Rob Festinger and Field adapted Andre Dubus' story 'Killings' and were Oscar nominated, as were the film, Tom Wilkinson, Sissy Spacek and Marisa Tomei, who's excellent (e.g. scene where Wilkinson comes to visit her in her shop). The Veterans number plate is a bit of a clue, then the wall display of his friend's army memories and we suddenly see that the mild mannered Wilkinson is about to do something dramatic. It's also an interesting point that we don't actually see William Mapother murder the son, Nick Stahl.

Frank Reynolds puts it together well - I wasn't sure if he is the son of William Reynolds. Mia Goldman is credited as editing consultant.

My only complaint is that there wasn't enough of Tom Newman's music in it.

Field has a measured, subtle approach. He made Tár in 2022 and before that his last credit was back in 2006 for Little Children.
