This is a difficult film to get along with. Gena Rowlands is a theatre star experiencing problems with her role and her self, exacerbated by the death of a young fan outside a theatre. She drinks and smokes too much, and ends up totally drunk at the New York premiere, but somehow manages to pull herself together and save the day. None of the characters are particularly sympathetic, but it's a well acted film, particularly by Ms Rowlands; and Ben Gazzara, John Cassavetes, Joan Blondell, Paul Stewart (Citizen Kane, Kiss Me Deadly) and Zohra Lampert.
Quite interesting, e.g. 'acting' vs. acting, a sort of subversion of the standard 'putting on a show' plot. Long. Self financed.
